Started nearly 30 years ago, the stunning Old Germantown Gardens of Bruce Wakefield and Jerry Grossnickle are situated on a steeply-sloping hillside nestled into the west side of Forest Park. The varied terrain intrigues and demonstrates a passion & dedication for form, texture, fantastic focal points. Join us for an exploration of the 2-acre terraced gardens in the glory of spring. Should make for a great morning - rain or shine (prepare for both)!

Registration in advance is required.  This event is FREE to current ANLD members (regular & student); each member may bring 1 non-member guest ($15).

Please plan to arrive by 9:30 am to allow time for parking.  Tour to start at 9:45 am and finish by 11 am.

    Stacey Stewart's Garden

Much of the garden is traditional PNW style (maples, hydrangeas, roses, clematis) with a few forward edge selections (Grevillea, Metapanax, Schefflera, Callistemon, Arctostaphyllos). Gathering places include dining patio, fire pit patio, and deck with Adirondack chairs. A raised garden bed with a seat-wall was added in 2018 to provide a place for plants requiring well-drained soil. The parking strip was rescued in 2019 from two tyrannical red maples and planted with an array of drought tolerant sun lovers. The garden shed presides over several raised beds in the vegetable garden. Song birds often enjoy bathing in the fountain.

Registration required no later than June 10. There is no cost to register; each current ANLD member may bring one guest with them.

Masks & sensible social distancing required!

    Doreen's Personal Garden

My little 1894 home has a garden packed with texture. Upstairs deck looks down onto a potting shed patio space with lots of containers! I’m pretty gardened in. 2018, the back shade garden became a sun garden, changes had to be made, Getting plants happy there is still in process. On your way out, Argyle Winery is on Hwy 99, it's a delight to stroll. I'll have something refreshing awaiting you here, (if allowed)... and a restroom!

Registration required no later than June 5. There is no cost to register; each current ANLD member may bring one guest with them.

    Carillo-McCarthy Garden, Designer Bruce Hegna

The homeowners were eager to make their back yard a more useful, welcoming space while remodeling their garage into a work studio. The driveway was partially removed and a winding pathway was created which would tie the back door to a new patio and around to a small deck. Screening views and softening the fenced boundaries was important. Conifers and broadleaf plantings provide year-round interest.

Registration required no later than June 14. There is no cost to register; each current ANLD member may bring one guest with them.

    Bruce & Doug's Personal Garden

Our garden is a mix of succulents, xeric plantings and a corner of leafy foliages beneath a large redwood and easy-care plants with an emphasis on winter interest. Last summer our front yard was totally redone to match our desired clean, contemporary aesthetic to complement our ranch-style home.

Registration required no later than July 2. There is no cost to register; each current ANLD member may bring one guest with them.

    Marina & Mike's Garden

Mike and I have been developing our gardens together since 2006. Wow 15 years! it started as a blank slate, literally all lawn (which we took out right away)! We started with space planning and moved on to the developing the planting beds. Mike generally works on the back and I have the front hard with lots of overlap and collaboration. Gardening/landscaping/plant nerding is our shared passion and creative outlet. While the space plans stay the same the planting beds are constantly changing as our interests have evolved, plants die or outgrow their space and our gardening knowledge grows.
